The Clinical Coordinator

  • WIP facilitates patient flow, coordinates activities and communication for the nursing unit during his/her assigned shift. This person ensures that patient care is delivered to all patients on the nursing unit in an efficient, caring and courteous manner.

Unit Summary:

This unit is a 21-bed unit that provides leading- edge, collaborative, and comprehensive care for adult patients with a variety of blood and bone marrow disorders. As a part of the VCU Massey Cancer Center, the largest adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant provider in all of Virginia, we offer the latest FDA- approved CAR-T immunotherapies, clinical trials testing new and promising forms of cellular immunotherapies, as well as all forms of stem cell and bone marrow transplantation. We provide both outpatient and inpatient services in the same facility, and provide a suite of support services that range from helping minimize symptoms and side effects to coping with the cognitive, emotional, and psychological effects of cancer.

Through respectful, attentive and compassionate care, our multidisciplinary care team builds healing relationships with our patients that focus on recovery and survivorship. We work closely with a large team of supportive care specialists to address the psychological and social impacts of cancer for our patients.

We are:

  • 21 bed unit
  • 1:2-3 Nurse to Patient Ratio, and 1:3-4 for lower acuity patients
  • Dedicated to providing each patient and their family innovative techniques and treatments
  • Part of VCU Health’s Massey Cancer Center, the largest adult stem cell and bone marrow transplant provider in Virginia and the first in Virginia to offer a FDA- approved CAR-T cell therapy.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Current RN licensure in Virginia AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience Charge Nurse experience or supervisory experience

Experience PREFERRED:

Academic Health Care experience Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice Education/training REQUIRED:

Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date.

Education/training PREFERRED:

Certification in specialty area; Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing Independent action(s) required: Follows documented physician/licensed independent provider orders. Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Practice is guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards. All practice is guided by and follows the VCUHS policies and procedures and established practice guidelines. Organizes and plans work with input from the patient/family with specific outcomes and demonstrated use of sound clinical judgment and resources. Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN’s, LPNs, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.

Additional position requirements:

  • Clinical Coordinators work all three shifts, weekends and holidays.
  • Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager.
  • Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed.
