Real responsibility, right away
Expect to gain valuable experience, while also having a genuine impact on our business. Working closely with a senior analyst, you’ll exercise your abilities to contribute ideas to thematic research reports and investment recommendations.
You’ll gain a sound understanding of rates, FX and commodities markets, as well as the economic forces that influence them. Diving deep into the fundamentals of key markets and economies, you will:
study the linkages between rates, FX and commodities markets
develop an understanding of micro structure in bond, interest rate derivatives, FX and commodity markets
work on custom projects and conduct empirical studies using public databases and Barclays’ proprietary data, models and analytics
gain experience on the publication process of Barclays Research periodicals
learn how we form the firm’s macro outlook on the global economy
interact with sales, trading desks and other research groups. 1-2 year targeted, fast-track program focused on developing specialist technical expertise

Who we're looking for
To be considered for this program? you must be motivated and curious with a Masters degree or PhD - No specific subject degree is required
Ideally, you'll have a passion for financial markets, macroeconomics, and international economics and a keen interest in recognising current trends, while envisioning tomorrow's emerging trends. You will have an interest in business and finance, and some prior experience in empirical methods/econometrics . You'll benefit from having quantitative skills, including statistics and time series analysis. Familiarity working in a programming environment, such as Python, Matlab, SAS, Eviews and Excel VBA are a bonus.
Working in New York
You will be working at our Americas Headquarters at 745 Seventh Avenue. This 37-story office tower is located in Times Square in the heart of Manhattan and features a cafeteria, fitness center and state-of-the-art LED signage on the facade of the building.

Accountabilities
- Execution of research projects, conducting financial, statistical and industry analysis on companies and the industry to support the team’s investment thesis communicate research findings, collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for the research division.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
- Participation in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Research of sector trends that may impact company/sector recommendations for the research division.
- Management of writing daily, weekly, or monthly short notes or lengthy reports on economies, markets and/or industries.
- Management of assembling historical financial models using public filings, company conference calls, and press releases in support decision making in the research division.
- Training and mentoring of junior colleagues. Assistant Vice President Expectations
- Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
- Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
- Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
- Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
- Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
- Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
