Research Data Scientist

  • New York This role is regulated by FINRA. As a Barclays Research Data Scientist, you’ll be responsible for developing new methods & techniques for working with alternative data, and incorporating those into our analytical workflows. This will increase our capabilities for working with alternative data and the rate of delivery of research that uses these data. This is also an exciting chance write research, share details of these methods and techniques with our clients, and be a source of institutional knowledge about how to incorporate data science into the investment research process. Salary / Rate Minimum: 140,000

For this specific role, the onsite working requirement is one day a week, which is a role-based exception due to the requirements of the role. What will you be doing?

  • Collaborating with colleagues in the Research Data Science and Investment Science teams to develop new capabilities aligned with the goals of these teams and of Research broadly
  • Being responsible for writing code to do ETL and data preprocessing for use in Research
  • Building capabilities on top of data sets, incorporated into workflows through the use of our analysis tools, including improvements to NER algorithms, new backtesting capabilities, etc.
  • Developing high-quality source-controlled software to bring your capabilities from prototypes to functional, production-quality capabilities integrated into data science workflows
  • Informing analysis designs, especially with regard to causal and statistical inference
  • Taking responsibility for ideating and executing novel methods techniques in an experimental capacity
  • Writing and staying aligned to roadmaps and timelines for capability development built in collaboration with your direct manager What we’re looking for:
  • Experience with statistical inference, including the standard Python ML and data analysis stack (pandas, sklearn, tensorflow/keras/pytorch, numpy, scipy, statsmodels, etc.)
  • Understanding of bias in observational data, including the basics of causal inference and selection bias adjustment
  • Experience working with large-scale data analysis, especially using pyspark, good judgement in data analysis and modeling, and using git for source control in a team environment
  • Experience with a SQL dialect with excellent math foundations, including probability and statistics, calculus, and linear algebra Skills that will help you in the role:
  • Excellent skills with causal and statistical inference, including observational causal designs
  • Experience in finance
  • Experience with publishing data analytics for articles, blogs, or other web-based content
  • Experience writing code documentation, including sphinx docs and Python docstrings Where will you be working? You will be working at our Americas Headquarters at 745 Seventh Avenue. This 32-story office tower is located in Times Square in the heart of Manhattan and features a cafeteria, fitness center and state-of-the-art LED signage on the facade of the building.
