Software Engineering Intern Positions

Program Objective/Scope

At BD Biosciences, our purpose is to empower scientists and doctors to transform lives, one cell at a time. The summer internship program at BD Biosciences in Ashland , Oregon , provides students hands-on exposure to BDB’s Software Engineering group, a leading provider of innovative tools that drive a deeper understanding of the human immune system and unlock its unique power to fight diseases like cancer, HIV, and COVID-19.

As part of a global organization, you may work within cross-functional or interdisciplinary teams while collaborating and supporting multiple internal partners and customers. The internship program will provide endless opportunities to engage with peers, senior personnel, and supervisors who will provide informal mentoring and coaching.

Throughout our summer internship, students will build an extensive professional network, learn how to work in an engineering environment, and deliver business presentations showcasing their work. BD's summer internship program is a great opportunity to gain exposure to biotechnology and BD’s culture.

We are recruiting for highly driven Computer Science and Computer Engineering student s with a passion for innovation, product development and working in biotechnology .

The candidate is responsible for all housing and transportation costs.

Project Areas:

Each R&D intern will join an ongoing project and develop their technical expertise in the Software Engineering space. During your summer internship, you will have the opportunity to work in the following areas:

  • Support execution of technical and/or cross-functional project work as part of a scrum-based agile team
  • Ensure the implementation and rigor of product development processes and design control procedures
  • Design, develop and test software systems and subsystems
  • Build high-quality, clean, and scalable code by following industry best practices
  • Collaborate with product owners, user experience designers, and technical stakeholders to deliver software that not only meets functional and technical requirements but provides delightful customer experiences

Required qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction as to duration.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10
  • 12-week summer internship period.

Education

  • BS / MS/PhD student pursuing a degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering

Experience

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to understand complex workflows and develop and validate innovative solutions
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills and an aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, take initiative and deliver results
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: C++, C#, Java, Javascript , or Python

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior internship/co-op experience
  • Prior experience in data structures and algorithm s
  • Prior experience with HTML/CSS/JS
  • Prior experience with React
  • Knowledge of biology, immunology, or other life sciences
