Overview
Altrata is looking for an experienced OWL2 Ontologist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of ontology development and semantic web technologies, with a focus on using OWL2 for knowledge representation and reasoning.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain ontologies using OWL2 to support various projects and domains.
- Design and enhance ontologies to meet changing customer needs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and document data models using ontological principles.
- Conduct ontology mapping and integration to facilitate data interoperability and integration across systems and datasets.
- Apply ontology best practices to improve data quality and accessibility.
- Implement and manage ontology-based data integration and interoperability solutions.
- Conduct quality assurance and validation of ontologies.
- Provide training and support to team members across the Altrata organisation on ontology development and usage.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in ontology engineering and semantic web technologies.
Required Experience and Skills
Must have -
- Master’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Extensive experience with OWL2, RDF, and SPARQL.
- Proficiency with ontology development tools (e.g., Protégé, TopBraid Composer).
- Strong understanding of knowledge representation and reasoning.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Like to have -
- Experience with domain-specific ontologies.
- Familiarity with other semantic web standards (e.g., SKOS, Dublin Core).
- Experience in software development and integration, including Graph Databases such as Neo4j, and AI/ML using ontological frameworks
- Experience with Cloud based data warehouses such as Databricks or Snowflake

In short, we work flexibly! Altrata employees can choose to work from wherever they want (mostly). For some, that might mean splitting time between working from home and one of our global offices, and for others that could mean working fully remote. We want our team to choose the working dynamic that works best for them. We currently have team members spanning the following countries: United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Hungary, India, and Malaysia.
We also start our weekends early, at lunchtime on Fridays (really!), giving everyone a jump on their weekends.
