Title: Platform Engineer III

Department: Internal Operations

Reports To: Senior Manager, Site Reliability

Location: Ireland

Job Summary

We are seeking a talented and experienced Platform Engineer III to join our growing team. You will be responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling our internal platforms powering our applications and services. This role requires a strong understanding of infrastructure technologies and a passion for creating reliable and efficient systems. Additionally, you will be part of an on-call rotation, responsible for responding to and resolving critical platform incidents outside of regular business hours.

Platform Engineers will work directly with Product Engineering, leveraging cloud environments to create optimal solutions. Platform Engineering not only guides developers but will also directly implement changes within core code bases to utilize new features of the platform.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement platform solutions using technologies such as cloud platforms (AWS), containerization (Kubernetes), GitOps CD, CI pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools (Terraform)
  • Build and maintain robust monitoring systems to proactively identify and troubleshoot platform and application issues
  • Instrument applications with OpenTelemetry distributed traces
  • Ensure platform security and compliance with industry standards
  • Have a product oriented approach to Platform Engineering by collaborating with development teams to understand their needs and design platform features that meet their requirements.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and deployments
  • Participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing sessions
  • Respond to production incidents during your designated on-call rotation, diagnose issues, and implement solutions to restore service
  • Document platform architecture, processes, and procedures
  • Continuously learn about new technologies and trends in the platform engineering space

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 4+ years of experience as a Platform Engineer or similar role
  • 4+ years of experience with a general purpose programming language (Golang, Java, Python etc.) building applications and tools
  • Experience with application debugging, performance optimization, code instrumentation and profiling
  • Proficiency in Kubernetes and experience deploying and maintaining production applications in Kubernetes clusters. Solid understanding of K8s concepts, resource types, tooling, ingress controllers, autoscalers, etc
  • Proven experience with cloud platforms, containerization technologies, GitOps tools like ArgoCD, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure automation tools like Terraform
  • Experience with modern observability tools, especially Open Telemetry distributed traces
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • On-call experience a plus
