Pickle Robot Company is a fun place with a lot of moving parts and projects in action. The work has human scale physicality, lots of problems to solve in the lab, and on-site in-production realities at customer deployments. This particular job is not travel heavy but all employees are encouraged to visit customer sites.
Pickle Robot Company is looking for a Director of Hardware to join the team.
The Director of Hardware is obsessed with the details of the hardware and enhancing the hardware team’s ability to consistently meet their commitments. They are able to lead at both the architecture, design, and build phases, jumping in to directly solve problems and design components as needed. They have a strong understanding of the capabilities of the hardware team as a whole.
They are an active collaborator outside of the hardware organization, looking to propose executable hardware solutions to business and organizational needs. They maintain a fairly accurate understanding of the current design and performance of the hardware system in order to make reasonable assessments about the resources available to hardware and when they are insufficient. They work with manufacturing to ensure that the efforts of the design engineers will not conflict with the needs of the company to scale the product

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates discussion of creating technical features to meet product requirements utilizing the principles of debate and commit to ensure active Creative Conflict
  • Makes commitments on hardware organization's ability to deliver on product requirements
  • Owns overall hardware process, being able to dive in and out of the trenches to inform the creation of a process that works across the team and enables high levels of execution
  • Partners with program management to report on progress and blockers, specifically providing clear and accurate updates with appropriate detail
  • Maintains an active communication with the Director of Software to ensure needs/issues are communicated between the two functions as they become understood
  • Identifies gaps in the hardware team - either structural or skill set based - and works with the CTO and recruiting to fill them

Requirements

  • 12+ years experience in robotics or related field
  • 5+ Team Leadership experience

  • Solid Engineering Fundamentals in Structures and Machine Design
  • Machining, assembly, and mechanical debugging skills
  • SolidWorks/CAD Experience
  • Inventory and BOM tracking experience
  • Supplier Management Experience
  • A Focus on Functional Requirements over Technical Wow
  • Nice to have (Portfolio of previous work)
