Role
As the Director of Manufacturing, your responsibilities will include manufacturing, supply chain management, procurement and facilities. You will join a high-energy, dynamic, and rapidly scaling company at a critical time and lead the transformation of our manufacturing process. This is a hands-on, results-driven position, with expectations to not only direct work, but also actively participate in it, and build the right team to support additional growth. The successful candidate thrives in an energetic, highly dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage the manufacturing operation, in collaboration with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Sales and Deployment.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing department and ensure that production targets are met.
  • Identify, evaluate, select and oversee contract manufacturer(s). Work with R&D mechanical engineering team on component vendor selection and design for manufacturing.
  • Develop and execute the in-source vs. out-source strategy that ensures quality manufacturing and production timeliness as demand for the company’s products scales both domestically and internationally.
  • Work with sales and deployment to create, maintain and report a comprehensive production schedule.
  • Working with Supply Chain, plan, coordinate and manage all material, labor and facility resources in support of manufacturing, assembly, testing and shipment of equipment in compliance with the engineering specifications, quality requirements, budgeted labor costs, and committed delivery schedule
  • Process improvement activities in all manufacturing-related areas, including cost and quality.
  • Be the overall facility owner – manufacturing will share space with marketing, testing, QA/QC. being the point of contact with landlords, contracting of all required building services, and ensuring compliance with all governmental safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Build and develop a highly functional team, with strong internal strategic and tactical ownership.
  • Ensure that all production processes comply with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Develop strong relationships with sales, marketing, demand/supply planning, R&D engineering, safety, finance, and others.
  • Participate with senior management in establishing long and short-range planning, policies, programs and objectives related to manufacturing.
  • Develop, achieve, and report on key metrics.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Education & Experience

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in a manufacturing-oriented engineering environment including at least 5 years as a manufacturing engineer
  • Experience in a manufacturing management role, preferably involving highly engineered technical products, fabrication, mechanical/electrical assembly, machine controls, and hardware/software integration
  • Proven track record selecting and managing external contract manufacturers
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering - Advanced degree, training, and/or certifications beneficial
  • Experience and enthusiasm in building and managing high-performing teams
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage operational process for maximum efficiency and productivity
  • Machining, assembly, and mechanical debugging skills
  • SolidWorks/CAD experience
  • QuickBooks experience a plus
