The Senior Manager, Engineering NerdWallet Mortgage Experts is responsible for leading and scaling engineering team to deliver innovative financial technology solutions. This role ensures the successful execution of product roadmaps, fosters a culture of technical excellence and collaboration, and drives continuous improvement in engineering practices to meet business objectives and regulatory compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, Engineering NerdWallet Mortgage Experts is responsible for leading, mentoring, and scaling engineering teams, ensuring the successful delivery of complex financial technology products and features. This role involves setting technical direction, establishing best practices in software development, and driving architectural decisions that align with business goals and regulatory requirements. They are accountable for managing project timelines, resource allocation, and budget, while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within their teams. Additionally, they will identify and mitigate technical risks, implement robust security protocols, and ensure the scalability and reliability of all deployed solutions. This position requires strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and a keen understanding of the FinTech landscape to drive impactful results and contribute to the company's strategic growth.

Essential Functions (Impact You Can Make at NW):

  • Lead, mentor, and scale engineering team, ensuring successful delivery of complex financial technology products and features.

  • Set technical direction, establish best practices in software development, and drive architectural decisions aligned with business goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and budget.

  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within teams.

  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, implement robust security protocols, and ensure the scalability and reliability of deployed solutions.

  • Drive impactful results and contribute to the company's strategic growth through strong leadership, deep technical expertise, and understanding of the FinTech landscape.

Required Skills and Qualifications (Your Experience):

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing multiple engineering teams.

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex software projects in a FinTech environment.

  • Experience with implementation of CRM technology (i.e Salesforce, Hubspot)

  • Preferred experience with Mortgage Industry or public facing Websites.

  • Deep understanding of software development life cycles, agile methodologies, and best practices.

  • Strong architectural design skills and experience in building scalable, reliable, and secure financial systems.

  • Expertise in relevant programming languages, frameworks, and databases commonly used in FinTech (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Node.js, AWS, Azure, GCP, SQL, NoSQL).

  • Solid knowledge of financial regulations, compliance standards, and security protocols relevant to FinTech.

  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team-building skills.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate technical risks and solve complex technical challenges.

  • Experience with budgeting, resource allocation, and project management.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points):

  • Experience with machine learning and AI in financial applications.

  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and microservices.

  • Advanced certifications in project management (e.g., PMP, CSM) or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect).

  • Contributions to open-source projects or technical communities.

  • Experience managing distributed engineering teams.
