Senior Copywriter (Contract)
NerdWallet
NerdWallet’s internal creative agency, the Brand Studio team, is looking for a strategic, versatile copywriter to join us. Too often, the world of personal finance is obscure, stuffy, and overly promotional - leaving people confused or, worse, manipulated. NerdWallet is changing that.
As a copywriter, you’ll do more than just write - you’ll think strategically. You’ll craft smart, insight-driven copy across a variety of media, while developing and leveraging strategic insights that shape your concepts and executions. You’ll use our brand voice not only to make personal finance more approachable, but also to support broader business goals with purpose and precision. This role reports to a Creative Director and partners closely with cross-functional teams - including performance marketing and product - from concept development through execution to deliver best-in-class creative.
The ideal candidate will be able to write strategic, on-brand copy for email marketing, landing pages, social media, banners, and digital ads, while proactively identifying opportunities to test and improve business performance.
You are:
A writer: You love the process of writing - refining your work so that it flows smoothly, is filled with substance and voice, and is enjoyable to read.
Strategic and insightful: As a creative problem solver, you can draw on briefs, brand strategy, and user research to guide your work. You’re curious and eager to experiment to push our copy to be as effective and high-performing as possible. You proactively identify opportunities to test and improve business metrics, and you communicate your ideas clearly - whether in presentations or written documentation.
Organized: You document your copy in a way that makes it easy to access, iterate on, and reuse across future projects.
Have a learning mindset: You’re a fast learner, eager to grow your skills and partner closely with your manager and peers to evolve our brand and creative output.
An excellent communicator: You’re comfortable interacting with colleagues at all levels, including cross-functional stakeholders and can confidently represent the Brand Studio team in meetings and project discussions.
Collaborative: You’ve partnered with marketing and product teams to bring ideas from concept to execution. You enjoy working closely with other copywriters and designers to support projects. In a fast-paced, remote-first environment, you handle quick feedback loops with ease and can jump between campaign and internal initiatives. You keep team members and stakeholders informed on project statuses, deadlines, and strategy.
Where you can make an impact:
Make personal finance enjoyable and accessible to read, while ensuring copy is rooted in strategy and business objectives.
Take ownership of projects from concept through execution, managing priorities independently while aligning with brand and business goals.
Write and optimize copy across multiple channels including email, social, landing pages, and headline-driven placements.
Identify learnings from tests and experiments, adjust your approach accordingly, and contribute to both individual and team progress.
Proactively suggest systems-level improvements that elevate broader content categories, not just individual assets.
Build strong, collaborative relationships within your immediate team and with partners by sharing knowledge, welcoming diverse perspectives, and giving constructive feedback.
Organize and document your work in a clear, reusable format, including copy docs and collaborative tools like Figma.
Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure content and visuals align, and that all creative work is delivered on time and on brand.
Communicate clearly and respectfully across various mediums, assume positive intent, and stay open to coaching and feedback.
Understand how your work supports and enhances the broader NerdWallet customer journey.
Your experience:
5–7 years of related experience on an in-house creative team or at a marketing/advertising agency
A strong portfolio showcasing innovative and thoughtful email executions and measurable success
Ability to organize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
A passion for strategic storytelling and creative thinking to craft impactful user experiences and marketing materials
Bonus Points: Experience writing about financial products (e.g., credit cards, banking, mortgages, loans, insurance, or investing)
