The opportunity
As a Staff Research Engineer within our Eyepiece Development Team, you will help evaluate different inkjet technologies to be used in the nanoimprint process for eyepiece manufacturing. You will also develop inkjet technology to jet a wide range of photoresists, assisting internal material development cycle to meet challenging optical performance. This is one of the cornerstone technology for Magic Leap to achieve excellent optical performance in our AR headset.
Location: This position requires full on-site presence at our Austin, TX facility to ensure seamless collaboration and hands-on support for daily operations. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates.
What you’ll do
- Evaluate inkjet technology to use in our nanoimprint process, and propose new idea to improve current technology to meet challenging goals.
- Develop inkjet process to jet photoresist of extreme properties, provide feedback, and design criteria to our material scientists for their material development.
- Improve and automate inkjet equipment/system and facilitate its integration into a nanoimprint equipment.
- Analyze the properties of different ink candidates using metrology equipment, such as rheometer, drop shape analyzer, tensiometer, and microscope.
- Strong data processing and organization skills are required.
- Ability to communicate effectively across teams.
The experience you bring
- Doctorate in materials science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent scientific discipline.
- 5+ years working experience in an industrial setting (2+ years of experience can still be considered for a Senior position instead of a Staff position)
- Excellent communication skill is required.
It’s exciting if you also have
- Experience simulating multiphase flow
- Familiar with Python for image processing and data processing
- Experience to work in HVM and/or clean room environment
