Property Accountant

Latch is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Property Accountant to join our team. The Property Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of property operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements. This role requires strong analytical skills, proficiency in accounting software specifically AppFolio, and the ability to work collaboratively with property management teams and other stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements for assigned properties. Generate and distribute owner statements and reports.
  • Accounts Payable and Receivable: Process invoices and ensure timely payment to vendors and service providers. Monitor and manage rent collections and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the preparation of property budgets and forecasts. Monitor actual performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Reconciliations: Perform bank reconciliations and ensure proper documentation and accuracy of financial transactions. Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies.
  • Compliance and Audits: Ensure compliance with relevant accounting policies, regulations, and standards. Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with property managers and management teams to ensure alignment on financial goals and performance.Provide financial insights to support decision-making and strategic planning.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized financial records for each property. Ensure proper documentation of all financial transactions and correspondence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement in accounting procedures and reporting. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in property accounting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a property accountant or in a similar role, preferably in real estate or property management.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant accounting principles and regulations.
