Overview of Position

The Statutory Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing and delivering financial statements and regulatory filings in compliance with NAIC and state insurance department requirements. This role ensures timely and accurate reporting for legal entities and supports audits, regulatory examinations, and internal stakeholders through strong collaboration and technical expertise.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Prepare and analyze the quarterly and annual NAIC statutory financial statements (Yellow Book / Blue Book).

  • Draft and review annual Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), quarterly statutory analysis packages, and other narrative reports.

  • Ensure compliance with Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), state insurance department regulations, and internal policies.

  • Collaborate with actuarial, reinsurance, tax, and investment teams to gather data for statutory schedules, exhibits, note disclosures, and other key filings.

  • Analyze statutory-to-GAAP differences and prepare reconciliation schedules.

  • Assist in monitoring key performance indicators and enhancing the accuracy of financial reporting.

  • Record statutory journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.

  • Support compliance with SOX and MAR requirements.

  • Assist in ensuring team meets all deadlines and deliverables in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Maintain documentation for internal controls over financial reporting.

  • Support external audits and state insurance department examinations.

  • Participate in system enhancements, automation initiatives, and process improvements.

  • Identify and promote best practices and innovative solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with business segments and stakeholders across the enterprise.

  • Promote open communication and cross-functional collaboration; provide recommendations to enhance processes and reporting.

  • Support the maintenance and enhancement of accounting systems and contribute to team development and knowledge sharing.

Responsibility for the work of others

  • Serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to less experienced team members.

  • Review and validate financial information prepared by others to ensure accuracy and compliance.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered. CPA designation is preferred but not required.

  • Knowledge and Skills

    • Strong accounting foundation with in-depth knowledge of Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP) and/or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    • Expertise in NAIC statutory reporting requirements and insurance regulatory frameworks

    • Proficiency in enterprise tools such as Oracle, Power BI, Sovos Statutory Reporting, Alteryx, Workiva, and Microsoft Office Suite.

    • Familiarity with emerging AI tools to support automation and reporting accuracy.

    • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis functions

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform independent research

    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

    • Effective time management and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines

    • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration and reporting

    • Proven ability to leverage technology to improve reporting efficiency and accuracy

    • Results-oriented mindset with focus on continuous improvement

    • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to work effectively across departments

    • Ability to adapt to evolving regulatory requirements and accounting standards

  • Previous Experience

    • A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in insurance accounting or statutory reporting. Experience with quarterly and annual statutory filings is strongly preferred.

Pay Range:

$54,900.00 - $92,000.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
