The intern will assist our team to strengthen the manufacturing engineering operation by helping us transform into a Lean Manufacturing mindset. Specifically, the intern will help construct a detailed capacity analysis headcount modeling tool that will allow us to achieve a more efficient workplace; guidance will be provided by Assurant engineering manager or equivalent. Tool will be based on standard work and the calculation of lean headcount with cycle and TAKT times.
This is an onsite role in our Lewisville TX facility.
What will be my duties and responsibilities in this internship?
- Assist the Team by performing time studies and observational work content of key process steps
- MOST modeling most helpful for unknown and future operations
- Assist with analyzing and developing innovative new and/or existing process changes
- Create a mathematical headcount modeling tool based on cycle time, customer TAKT time (including yields from previous operations and work-flow proportioning)
- Prepare and present a lean-driven layout and time-driven (instead of milestone-driven) analysis of work involved in assembly and disassembly of a commercially-available, portable cellular telephone
- Participate and present strategies for paradigm shifts on manufacturing floor
- Participate in brainstorming sessions in the development of new solutions, particularly with ergonomic considerations of workstation design/one piece flow and IPK methodology (in-process kanban)
- With this opportunity, the intern has the potential to gain experience, enhance skill sets and competencies that will make them better prepared for future roles

What are the requirements needed for this internship?
- Enrolled full-time in college (carrying 12 or more undergraduate credits, or 9 or more graduate credits) in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related program
- Completed the 2nd Semester of college working towards a bachelor’s in science
- Be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher)
- Two years of strong Excel, Word, and PowerPoint experience, Auto Cad, and Solidworks
