Cloud Engineer, GCC, India

Reporting to the Director of Data Services, Global Data Analytics (GDA), The ‘Cloud Engineer’ is responsible for leading the design, build, templatization of public cloud storage, compute, database, and orchestration resources. Scope of the role requires broad knowledge of cloud infrastructure & technologies. This is one of the key roles for successful delivery of cloud resources as a service.

The role holder will work with Data Engineers, Data Warehouse Developers, Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, Enterprise Architects, Security and Network Engineers to come up with overall design and implementation of Assurant’s Azure cloud infrastructure to enable Global Data Analytics’ (GDA) AI/ML, Generative-AI, Reporting and Data solutions.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

• Leads and drives the vision for cloud infrastructure patterns and architectural artifacts.
• Establishes and guides junior engineers on best practices to implement and configure cloud resources including compute, sub-nets, database, storage, CI/CD, and orchestration platform engineering designs within the Public Cloud and ensure connectivity to the cloud.
• Takes ownership and leads the discussions with data engineers, data scientists and other developers to design, build, maintain and document cloud resources owned by GDA.
• Leads the relationship with enterprise teams such Architecture, DevSecOps, Security, Network and Cloud operations to comprehend enterprise-level requirements for catalog automation of cloud infrastructure as code and ensure GDA solutions comply with enterprise requirements and policies.
• Ensure all AI/ML, Gen-AI, Reporting and Data solutions using cloud infrastructure are designed with appropriate proactive monitoring, resilience, and failover to meet internal and client SLA requirements.
• Work with DevOps engineers to standardize setup of release pipelines and repos, ensuring appropriate gates for review and approvals.
• Assist GDA’s solution architects in designing scalable and secure solutions for success and growth.
• Manages cloud expenditure through proper planning and by providing design inputs to GDA’s solution architects for new projects.
• Takes ownership to recommend alternative Cloud pricing tiers and SKUs where applicable without compromising SLA agreements.
• Stays updated on new public cloud infrastructure capabilities and how these align to Assurant’s Enterprise Cloud strategy and opportunities through active research.
• Works with team of data warehouse developers, data engineers, data scientists, enterprise architects, solution architects, network and security engineers.
• Cloud engineering scope will cross all components of infrastructure services integrating with security and all other infrastructure services i.e., sub-nets, compute and databases and orchestration.
• Develops catalog of cloud infrastructure and integration services that can be adopted across multiple Azure regions for the Global Data Analytics, keeping cost effectiveness as a primary consideration.
• Enables affordable public cloud adoption and maintain availability through, secured and performant infrastructure design along with automation of cloud services, where feasible.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or Computer Science
• Experience with design and build of infrastructure and platform with a focus around analytics applications.
• Strong knowledge on cloud-based tools and data processing software like Spark is essential.
• Programming Languages: Python, SQL and NoSQL.
• Enterprise Experience in design and delivery of infrastructure services as ‘Infrastructure as a code’.
• Experience of working and following Agile practices
• Experience on Azure Cloud is required.

• Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of experience or Masters’ degree with 3+ years of experience
• Knowledge of Databricks, Terraform, GitHub, Azure DevOps, Scrum Agile is preferred.
• Any vendor (Microsoft, Amazon, Google) certification like Cloud Solutions Architect or Engineer is preferred.
