Senior Suse Linux Server Engineer

As a Senior Suse Linux Server Engineer, you will be responsible for administration and support of distributed computing systems. You will work closely with project management, application development, and other IT teams to support Linux Server infrastructure (both physical and virtual). The successful candidate must have a solid work ethic, be detail oriented, and have strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Provides direct technical support for all requirements in the planning, coordination, scripting, and implementation of upgrades or changes to our Linux distributed computing

  • Performs capacity planning, performance monitoring, tuning, and prediction.

  • Provides high-level support for Linux operating systems, ensuring proper change management procedures and methodologies are followed.

  • Some after-hours work will be required

  • Provides technical assistance/guidance to less experienced administrators

  • Position will require participation in an after-hours, on-call rotation to assist with incident handling for the purpose of resolving server related infrastructure issues

  • On call rotation: 1 night per week and weekend support every 1.5 months.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • 7+ years of general Linux experience with 5+ years of hands-on experience installing and supporting Suse Linux Servers.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Suse Linux Enterprise Server 12 or 15

  • 3+ years of experience and troubleshooting Linux server boot process

  • Strong experience with Bash and Perl Scripting

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience supporting Linux servers on VMware infrastructure

  • 3+years of hands-on experience managing Linux based IaaS in Microsoft Azure and/or AWS

  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and communication skills are required

  • In-depth knowledge of server technologies employed, hardware, O/S, and related tools and applications

  • Expert technical diagnostic and research skills of servers, expert troubleshooting

  • In-depth knowledge of networking components and services such as TCP/IP protocols, DHCP and DNS technologies, and LAN/WAN topologies and transports

  • Ability to explain the technical implications of various alternative solutions to management

  • Strong customer service orientation, proven dependability, promptness, and a solid attendance history

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field

  • Experience with HCL Bigfix for server patching and management

  • Experience with Nutanix HCI

  • Experience using ServiceNow ITIL managed processes

  • Experience with (Centrify, SSSD, ServiceNow, CyberArk, Qualys, LogicMonitor, Datadog)

Pay Range:

$84,100.00 - $140,500.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
