Assurant has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Accountant!

The Lead Accountant performs accounting duties to provide accurate and timely financial information to enable senior and product line management to make appropriate business decisions and achieve departmental goals. Supports the accounting research function, including transaction-based accounting research, and assessment of new or updated accounting guidance. Supports the financial reporting and analysis function, including quarterly analytics and the preparation of financial reports.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

• Prepare detailed monthly and quarterly journal entries and account analysis

• Support the month/quarter-end close process

• Prepare account reconciliations and perform follow-up activities for pending items

• Prepare complete, accurate, and timely financial deliverables in accordance with pertinent accounting guidance and state and federal regulation

• Proactively manages change in regulatory requirements with stakeholders; serves as subject matter expert for accounting and reporting

• Participate in the preparation and distribution of financial reports and analyses

• Prepare analytics explaining significant variances in the GAAP Financial Statements

• Ensure compliance with internal control policies in a SOX environment

• Prepare schedules for quarterly reviews and year-end audit for internal and external auditors

• Work with other departments such as Shares Services, Reinsurance, and Tax to ensure overall coordination of financial accounting activities

• Participate in/ lead planning and implementation of accounting work relating to projects and ad-hoc assignments

• Formulates, develops, and administers procedures necessary to implement approved policies and procedures and provides the overall direction necessary to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective processes

• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations

• > 5% Travel

What are the requirements needed for this position?

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field

• 5+ years general accounting experience

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

• CPA certified a plus

• Demonstrates strong analytical and research skills

• Strong understanding of GAAP accounting concepts

• Demonstrates good oral and written communication skills

• Good organizational skills

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables, V-look ups, macros, etc.

• Detail-oriented and able to work independently

• Ability to multitask and set priorities to meet deadlines

• Team-oriented and able to adapt to a flexible work environment

• Insurance accounting experience

Pay Range:

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
