Job Purpose:

The Senior Instructional Designer will report directly to the Learning Design Solutions Manager and will serve as an integral member of the Strategic Learning & Change Solutions Team. The Senior Instructional Designer is responsible for consulting with internal stakeholders to recommend learning solutions, managing instructional design projects, and designing and developing learning solutions that meet and/or accelerate business objectives. The Senior Instructional Designer is also responsible for management of small- to mid-sized instructional design projects throughout the entire project lifecycle, from scoping, planning and analysis through implementing and measuring business impact. This person has expertise in a variety of learning methodologies, recommends appropriate and innovative solutions, and completes the design and development of all web-based, virtual, on-the-job and classroom materials. The Senior Instructional Designer stays informed of current learning methodologies and technologies.

The effective Senior Instructional Designer will spend his/her time in roughly the percentages below:

Learning Needs Analysis and Consultation 10%

Design and Development of Learning Solutions 60%

Primary Responsibilities:

Learning Needs Analysis

Work with subject matter experts on defined projects to understand business objectives, determine related learning needs, and recommend learning solutions.

· Consult with subject matter experts to understand business objectives and uncover learning needs

· Advise internal clients on cost-effective methods of training delivery that impact learner performance and, ultimately, business performance

· Complete analyses of learning needs and objectives for the defined project

· Define key performance indicators (KPIs) by which to measure project success

· Gain agreement on a learning approach that achieves KPIs and supports and/or accelerates business objectives

· Build a deep understanding of the business (where we are, where we are headed, strengths and challenges) and strong business relationships so that we are best positioned to diagnose current and anticipate future needs

Project Management & Communication

Serve as the single point of accountability for all aspects of small- to mid-scale instructional design projects.

· Develop a detailed project plan and manage the project plan to ensure that instructional design deliverables meet quality standards and timeline agreements

· Plan and oversee project resources

· Maintain regular communications with key project stakeholders

· Conduct project review meetings

· Maintain project budget

· Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management practices

Design and Development of Learning Solutions:

Create learning experiences that support or accelerate business objectives, using a variety of learning methodologies.

· Remain current on existing and emerging learning methodologies and technologies

· Own the design and build of fit-for-purpose, cost-effective, sustainable solutions, leveraging a digital first approach when appropriate

· Work with subject matter experts to transform knowledge into learning solutions

· Specify learning outcomes and design experiences to meet the objectives

· Develop sound training deliverables including design documents, storyboards, job aids, participant and instructor guides, and accompanying materials

· Communicate project status to the project manager and other key stakeholders, ensuring that all deliverable deadlines are met

· Adhere to instructional design standards for the organization

· Provide process improvement recommendations

· Excellent tool proficiency in Articulate 360 suite, Vyond, Canva and any project management tool, Monday.com (Preferred)

Learning Metrics and Evaluation

Ensure that learning solutions are generating the intended outcomes.

· Work with stakeholders to understand the desired business outcomes and training outcomes at the start of a project

· Proactively keep key stakeholders informed of plans and progress, and remain informed of what solutions are available, when, and how to access

· Develop detailed project plans, plan, and track deliverables to ensure quality goals and timelines (promised to the business) are achieved

· Build a plan into each learning project for evaluating the successful achievement of training outcomes

· Work with internal partners to obtain and report on learning-related data

· Conduct and participate in project review meetings

Coaching & Mentoring

· Serve as onboarding partner for new Instructional Designers joining the team

· Provide coaching and mentorship to upskill consultants to encourage the adoption of department specific and other best practices

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field
  • Minimum 5 years of instructional design experience in a learning and development function, creating multiple types of learning deliverables (instructor-led, web-based, self-paced, collaborative, etc.)
  • Minimum 1 year in a project management capacity

Measurement: Analyzing performance metrics to ensure program and solution performance meet original goals

Business acumen: Understanding key business drivers that impact performance

Customer focus: Ensuring a high level of satisfaction from people managers that attend/use learning solutions

Influencing: Building strong relationships with internal stakeholders and leveraging these relationships to get things done

Collaboration: Seeking opinions/thoughts of others and engaging colleagues and peers when designing solutions

Technology: Digitally-savvy, is aware of and keeps pace with technology that can be used to deliver innovative solutions

Experience:

Advanced degree preferred in adult learning, instructional design or related field

5 years of instructional design experience in a Fortune 500 organization, preferably in the insurance and/or mortgage services industry

3 – 5 years in a training or development function

1 – 3 years in a project management capacity

2+ years’ experience programming web-based training (Articulate, Storyline, etc.)

Additional Experience:

· Working in a fast-paced organization within the technology, mobile, or financial services sectors

· Familiarity with Workday LMS

· Use of Zoom and MS Teams tools to facilitate virtual classrooms
