The Technical Product Owner (TPO) is responsible for working with the various internal and external business partners to help provide solution design to complex business needs. The Technical Product Owner represents the business needs at the agile team level to ensure the team is delivering the functionality that meets business and client needs. He/she must have past experience working with agile technology teams and have business skills and experience.

The primary role is to support the gathering and documenting of requirements based upon the needs of the business and conduct/lead requirement meetings and facilitate user acceptance testing. Additionally, the role will be present these requirements as user stories to IT agile team members in scrum ceremonies such as grooming, planning, daily standups, demos, and retrospectives. The TPO is responsible for providing expert system support for complex system development/ enhancements/ problems/ issues impacting other areas (interfaces/sub-systems). This lead position provides business /technical expertise and team leadership on major, complex initiatives. The position may be responsible for giving work direction, mentoring, and providing input to junior Business Systems Analysts.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Works closely with Business stakeholders and external customers, vendors, and other areas in Assurant to understand business objectives and product requirements. Interpret high-level business, compliance, and financial needs/requests for complex projects, with little or no background information or foundation.

  • A self-starter that has the ability to lead solution definition and refine requirements for several concurrent initiatives around the globe.

  • Be the “go to” person for knowledge of the department’s applications and data. Work closely with the Agile Team on complex system changes.

  • Writes functional and technical user stories that clearly communicate customer/stakeholder needs to the Agile team, accepts stories once complete and demo’d. Backlog planning, prioritization, and management.

  • Understands and supports inter-team dependencies, and ability to identify priority issues and determine which issues can be managed within the authority of a TPO and being able to discern those issues requiring engineering support or to be directed from a higher authority.

  • Analyze complex processes, interfaces, and sub-system problems for modification. Participate in new process definition efforts, as requested. Document existing and new business processes and workflows with a high level of complexity. Data Mapping of complex tables, files and records resulting from the corporate initiatives that involve system integrations, business acquisitions, and assumptions.

  • Identify and resolve complex, non-routine problems and issues where no precedent has been established or exists. Identify trends/patterns; facilitate and/or conduct root cause analysis; recommend solution alternatives. Identify and implement process improvements.

  • Validate UI meets business needs and support spot validation of integrations using tools like Postman and/or SoapUI. Work closely with the Testing resources to determine testing requirements involving cross-functional areas and sub-systems. Assist as needed in designing and drafting test plans as well as participate in testing for complex, large-scale projects.

  • Demonstrate detailed knowledge of Agile principles and scrum methodologies established and approved by our Company. Manage multiple projects, concurrently.

  • Communicate release date and scope for the initiatives the TPO is leading.

  • Attends and actively participates in team events (e.g., daily stand-up, grooming, sprint planning, sprint review).

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • 5+ years of progressive experience gathering and writing user stories for Web based, Mobile Applications, Web Services based functionality and as well as File Interfaces.

  • 2+ years of experience using two or more of the following: Postman, SoapUI, SQL Server, Swagger UI.

  • 3+ years of experience working with Process flows (Visio) and solution diagrams using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.

  • Experience with agile development; agile certification a plus.

  • Ability to lead, prioritize and work independently or as part of a project team to complete multiple tasks, concurrently.

  • Ability to process complex time sensitive data and information from multiple sources, make decisions and communicate actions.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively meet and drive the requirements gathering with our internal/external customers and translate into effective user stories for the agile team.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

  • Ability to develop productive working relationships with both technical and non-technical partners.

  • Ability to prioritize and work independently or as part of a project team to complete multiple tasks, concurrently.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.

  • Desired knowledge of: Azure Application Insights, Azure Storage Explorer and familiarity with JSON, XML, YAML, HTML, okta authentication, ASP.NET.

  • Previous Insurance, Wireless (Cell Phone Industry), OEMs, experience.

  • Previous Telecom/Mobile experience.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field.

Pay Range:

$82,200.00 - $137,400.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
