Job description:
We are seeking an exceptionally meticulous, warm, and highly experienced Private Chef for a health-conscious young family of four based in Los Angeles. This is a full-time, live-out position in a professionally equipped private kitchen, structured around daily family meal times.
The role serves two adults and two young children (under 7 years old) in a strictly gluten-free household due to a wheat allergy. The chef must have proven expertise in gluten-free cooking, including deep knowledge of sourcing, preparation techniques, and strict cross-contamination prevention. All meals must be prepared from scratch. No processed or pre-made products are permitted.
This is a five to six-month contract based in Los Angeles. After this period, the family will relocate to Jackson, Wyoming. The chef is welcome to continue with the family in a live-in capacity in Wyoming; however, candidates available for the Los Angeles period only are also encouraged to apply.
Kitchen standards in this home are non-negotiable.
The kitchen is the heart of the family home and must be maintained to the highest level of cleanliness and organization at all times.
The chef must strictly follow all ingredient storage guidelines, refrigerating items exactly according to label instructions without exception.
The use of plastic cookware, storage containers, or utensils near heat sources is not permitted. Glass, stainless steel, or ceramic must be used whenever possible. Avoidance of BPA and plastic contaminants is essential due to the young children in the household.
At the end of each working day, the kitchen must be left spotless. All surfaces, counters, and backsplashes must be thoroughly cleaned with no residue or spills. The stove and oven must always be left in pristine condition, free from grease or food particles. All ingredients must be returned to their proper place, with pantry, refrigeration, and storage areas kept orderly. Appliances must never be left unattended and must be checked and turned off before departure.
The chef will independently manage menu planning, sourcing, stock rotation, and kitchen inventory. A disciplined workflow, excellent personal hygiene, and strong organizational skills are essential. This is a private residence, not a commercial kitchen, and must be treated with care and respect.
The family values fresh, wholesome, ingredient-focused cuisine with strong attention to nutrition, flavor, and visual presentation. Preferred cuisines include French, Italian, modern American, and globally inspired healthy dishes. Breakfast should consist of healthy gluten-free options. Lunch should be light and fresh, such as salads, sushi, sandwiches, or charcuterie-style presentations. Dinner, often served at 6 PM, should be more refined and polished in style.
The ideal candidate has professional culinary training, with experience in Michelin-level kitchens AND high-end private households. Strong longevity in previous roles is required to be considered for this role.
The chef must be detail-oriented, calm, self-directed, and comfortable working around young children while maintaining professionalism.
Flexibility and adaptability to evolving schedules and preferences are essential.
No staff meals are required.
