Santa Canela is a Mexican pastry shop & cafe in Highland Park, Los Angeles, and we're looking for a Pastry Jr. Sous to join our team! We’re a Los Angeles-based Mexican panadería that celebrates Mexican flavors and techniques with seasonal pastries and baked goods created by Loreto & LA Cha Cha Chás’ pastry chef, Chef Ellen.
We’re looking for a responsible and reliable Pastry Jr. Sous who is interested in working directly under our group’s Pastry Chef. This is a great opportunity for
Open availability a must. This is a part-time to full-time position: Wednesday - Sunday, 6 AM to 2 PM.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and support the bakery team with assembly and final production of pastry menu under the Pastry Chef
- Assemble, prepare, and plate all pastry menu items
- Ensure all pastry products meet company standards for quality, taste, and presentation before being served.
- Train and support Bakery Team Members with BOH/food knowledge and protocols, maintaining consistency in technique, timing, and sanitation.
- Oversee daily pastry operations, including opening and closing the bakery.
- Manage pastry inventory and ordering, ensuring accurate rotation, labeling, and minimal waste.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards across all pastry work areas and storage.
- Record and communicate daily production, inventory, and maintenance needs to management.
- Alert management to necessary repairs and maintenance for pastry equipment.
- Collaborate with FOH leadership to ensure smooth coordination between pastry and beverage/FOH
Qualifications:
- Valid food handler certificate required upon start date
- 2+ years experience working in high volume bakery preferred
- Experience working as a Lead Pastry Cook or Pastry Jr Sous Chef preferred
- Be comfortable with repetitive motions such as walking, bending and standing during your scheduled shift.
- Be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Compensation:
- $19-$21 hourly rate based on experience
- Upon completion of training, estimated tips around $80 - $200 per week. Tip amounts are not guaranteed and are dependent on hours worked and business volume.
