Executive Chef

Executive Chef duties and responsibilities

Executive Chefs complete a variety of creative, organizational and leadership tasks to ensure a kitchen runs optimally and patrons’ meals are satisfactory. Their responsibilities frequently include:

  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
  • Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
  • Assisting and directing kitchen staff in meal preparation, creation, plating and delivery
  • Capable of delegating multiple tasks
  • Collaborating with the Restaurant Manager with ideas and concepts
  • Communication and leadership skills
  • Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Developing unique and cuisine-appropriate menus
  • Estimate food requirements and food/labor costs
  • Excellent record of kitchen management
  • Give prepared plates the “final touch”
  • Hiring, training and supervising kitchen staff
  • Identifying and introducing new culinary techniques
  • Keep time and payroll records
  • Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Maintaining the kitchen and surrounding areas in conditions that meet the company standards and health code regulations
  • Modify menus or create new ones that meet quality standards
  • Monitoring inventory and purchasing supplies and food from approved vendors
  • Perform administrative duties
  • Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
  • Preparing meals and completing prep support as needed
  • Proven working experience as a Head Chef
  • Recruit and manage kitchen staff
  • Rectify arising problems or complaints
  • Requirements and skills
  • Staying current on developing trends in the restaurant industry
  • Supervise kitchen staff’s activities
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)

Executive Chef skills and qualifications

Executive Chefs use a variety of culinary skills and soft skills to lead kitchens and provide excellent meal service to patrons. These skills include:

  • Ability to develop unique recipes
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently
