We are looking for a Kitchen Steward to help keep our small kitchen (serving 100 meals 3x per day) organized and clean. You will work one on one with the culinary department answering to the Head Chef. Shifts will include breakfast – lunch or lunch -dinner with up to two days off per week.

While this is not a glamorous position, it is a key role in operations and heavily appreciated by all. The Steward’s responsibilities include washing pots and pans, keeping the kitchen clean, receiving supplies and keeping storage areas organized. Opportunity for sanitizing food food prep work also exists and this is a great opportunity to develop experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, open, unpack, and stock grocery deliveries and supplies to their appropriate shelves, service stations and storage.
    • Review invoices and quality and quantity of products.
    • Inspect all products upon delivery for quality, temperature, and condition.
    • Report any faulty or incorrect deliveries immediately to the manager.
    • Maintain receiving log by competently tracking all deliveries and missing items.
    • Break down boxes and dispose of them properly.
  • Manage Walk-In, Deep Freeze, Soda Machine and Storage to rotate food and beverage products upon receipt-first in first out mentality.
    • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of all areas
    • Take inventory or examine merchandise to identify items to be reordered or replenished.
  • Operate Dishwashing Machine throughout shifts
    • Maintain and replenish chemicals and cleaning products used throughout
    • Return dirty dishes, silverware, glassware, and linen to the dishwashing area, wash, and sort appropriately.
    • Adhere to all sanitation guidelines.
  • Keep storage and delivery areas clean, sanitary, and easy to access
  • Collects and removes trash from all areas of the kitchen
    • Works with the maintenance department to ensure waste is marked for bin recycling guidelines.
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, well maintained and organized at all times.
    • Ensure floors are dry and clean at all times.
    • Cleans large equipment as assigned, following established procedures.
    • Carry out general cleaning including sweeping, mopping up, washing up,
    • Clean, sanitize and close workstations.
  • Assist the Cooks and Servers as and when necessary.
  • Assist in light food preparation as directed by manager or chef on duty.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements and skills

  • A fast learner with an interest in kitchen work
  • The ability to stand for long hours
  • Physically capable of moving boxes and navigating stairs
  • Willingness to adhere to health and safety rules
  • Good organizational skills
  • The ability to work unsupervised in a busy environment
  • Positivity, Patience, and cool headedness
