La Josie, a family-owned Bib Gourmand Mexican restaurant on Randolph Row, has been serving family recipes and supporting the best agave distillers from all regions of Mexico since May of 2017. In just a few short years, La Josie has become a beloved destination to eat, drink, and socialize in the West Loop. Our exceptional food menu is one of the most meticulously-crafted Mexican food menus in the City of Chicago, we are constantly experimenting, refining, and learning more about the regions, techniches, ingridients and traditions of Mexico.

La Josie is looking for a passionate, hard working, experienced Sous Chef. As one of Chicago’s premier Mexican food establishments, you should be a skilled Line & Prep cook with exceptional communicative & admistrative capabilities. We are looking for someone who will be team-oriented, who want to be with us long-term, with a desire to dive deeper into the intricacies of Mexican cuisine, participate in R&D and will be excited to share and be a Great leader to our team.


Requirements

  • Motivated, innovative and creative
  • Excellent knowledge of kitchen stations, general kitchen experience, well disciplined organization manner, special attention to detail regarding organization.
  • 3+ years of Line & Prep Cook experience
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft office (Excel & Word)
  • Flexible availability mornings, evenings and weekends
  • Bilingual, Spanish
  • Good knowldege of Mexican cuisine.
  • Culinary training preffered

Essential Duties & Responsibilties

  • 45 to 50 HRS per week
  • 1-2 Kitchen Admin days per week
  • Assist kitchen in aspects of service
  • All around Great team Leader
  • Abilty to work under pressure with grace and ease
  • Passion for excellence, superior service standards, and a positive attitude with a team player mindset
  • Love for exceptional food and exquisite style
  • Food descriptors, kitchen builds, recipe book
  • Interviewing, hiring and training new kitchen staff
  • Kitchen schedules
  • Work with CDC on Daily kitchen Pre-Shifts
  • Work with CDC on placing orders on Bevspot
  • Work with CDC to manage Labor and Food cost
  • Communicating with Vendors to compare best available prices
  • Partcipate in seasonal menu updates
  • Keeping up to-date with sanitary procedures
  • Maintain a polished posture.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid servsafe food manager certifications
  • Willingness to maintain a clean, safe, and healthy work environment
  • Ability to coordinate multiple activities with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with 7 shifts, slack and Toast POS preferred

Physical demands and work enviorment

  • Ability to be flexible and open-minded about job demands
  • Ability to move or handle equipment throughout the restaurant (generally between 0-50 lbs.)
  • Must be able to stand, walk, move during entire shift including frequent bending and stooping
