Empire Cake, a popular gourmet American-style bakery in Chelsea, is seeking qualified candidates for a Full-time Cake Icer/Decorator. Candidates MUST have experience in a high-production environment and should have professional experience frosting and filling cakes as well as decorating with buttercream, including proficiency in tinting and coloring buttercream, experience creating ombre, textured buttercream decoration, as well as decorative piping, and buttercream flowers. We are looking for five days a week, including at least one weekend day.
Cake Icer/Decorator Position:
The cake icer/decorator's primary responsibility is to assemble, frost, and fill cakes and to help design and decorate, from start to finish, custom cakes, including tiered celebration and wedding cakes, covered in buttercream. Fondant experience is a plus. Candidates must also be able to make buttercream and other types of frostings and fillings and will be required to frost and decorate cupcakes. Culinary school training is a plus, but not necessary; however, several years of professional experience as a cake decorator is required.
The ideal candidate will:
Have well developed artistic talents that include a skilled sense of composition, balance and design.
Have a great eye for color and the ability to accurately recreate a color from a swatch..
Be able to frost buttercream cakes smoothly and quickly.
Be able to create designs with or without reference materials.
Have a positive, high energy, friendly, enthusiastic, team-oriented attitude.
Be professional, reliable, organized and efficient, with excellent time management skills.
Be able to handle high pressure and volume, and work quickly.
Be able to follow instructions and direction, and have excellent communication skills.
Fondant experience and experience with royal icing and cookie decorating is a PLUS.
Compensation will be based on experience but is highly competitive.
Management and project management experience a plus.
