About The Role:
Bowery Farming is seeking an R&D Operations Manager who will be responsible for managing our R&D Operations and Facilities in Kearny, NJ. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Agricultural Systems Innovation, you will help to oversee the complete operation, which includes: people management and development, crop health, and experimental and operational excellence. You are an analytical problem solver who can set big goals, interpret data, and deliver business results. You will operate in a multidisciplinary environment with agricultural scientists, engineers, computer scientists and other functions and your work will meaningfully impact the evolution of the indoor agriculture industry.

What You'll Do:

  • Responsible for the end-to-end operation of our R&D farms including team, system and facility management
  • Oversee the R&D Operations team to ensure that the farm stays on schedule, from seeding to harvest, data collection and other relevant experimental tasks
  • Onboard, train and develop Supervisors, R&D Specialists, Agricultural Technicians, Farmers and Maintenance Technicians
  • Drive performance of farm operation, including safety, experimental quality and delivery, productivity and costs
  • Implement all SOPs and drive compliance with crop plans in partnership with the Agricultural Sciences team
  • Collect & analyze data in order to proactively identify production issues or develop plans to resolve existing issues
  • Provide a safe working environment by maintaining quality equipment and enforcing adherence to developed work practices
  • Ensure employees have the right tools, knowledge and equipment required to do their jobs effectively and safely
  • Promote a culture of world-class performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality
  • Establish trust and maintain open, positive relationships with team, customers and vendors
  • Conduct regular, formal site condition inspections and develop solutions for systemic needs

Who You Are:

  • Experience in manufacturing operations or engineering role with demonstrated ability to run a complex, automated operation
  • Lean & Six Sigma process improvement techniques knowledge
  • Experience managing an OSHA compliance program
  • Skills driving continuous improvement initiatives & culture
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and superior management skills
  • Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
  • Ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Detail & process orientation
  • Experience with farming and growing operations, and food safety and production is a plus
